Nicotine Withdrawal Medications

There are some medications that help to lessen nicotine withdrawal symptoms and these can be used with other types of therapy like behavioral therapy. There are two different types of nicotine withdrawal medications, nicotine based and non-nicotine based.
The nicotine based medications come in the form of patches, gums, lozenges, nasal sprays, inhalers and tablets that can help to reduce the nicotine dependency of the body in a slow method to make it easier than going cold turkey.
These can be used to help quit smoking, but they are not for everyone, because they have side effects and drug interactions with some medications that are taken for other medical conditions. There are also nicotine based medications the physician can prescribe that can help to stop smoking and others are available over the counter.  The medications that are by prescription contain psychotropic agents such as vareciline or bupropion. The non nicotine based medications that are available help to increase dopamine much the same as nicotine based medications, which is the chemical reactions in the body that increases the amount of pleasure. This helps to relieve the irritable feelings from the nicotine loss and can help with the nicotine urges.
