Mental Preparedness to Quit Smoking

The decision to quit smoking is an important one and to decide is one thing, but it also takes mental preparedness. What this means is be ready for every step of the process until you are smoke free, be ready for the nicotine cravings, be prepared for the insomnia, be prepared for all the other symptoms. The one thing to be especially prepared for is once that last cigarette, pipe or cigar has been put out to say mentally “I am not a smoker” and believe it.
The reason for this is because believing you can do something mentally makes it possible being unsure or thinking I will try this, but I will not be able to quit smoking is setting yourself up for failure. Being prepared, means knowing all the different symptoms and having a plan to deal with them or what quit smoking aids are going to be a part of your quit smoking plan can go a long way in staying steadfast mentally to quit smoking. It is extremely important to have the brain on your side and not thinking about failure and how good a cigarette will taste. Instead it is more important to have thoughts about how bad they actually taste, the damage they do to the body and how much easier it will be to breath when not smoking.
