Understanding the different cycles the body and mind go through when quitting smoking will help to successfully quit the habit permanently. Being educated in these different cycles the body and mind will go through can help the person quitting smoking to be prepared for the urges for nicotine, the depression and other symptoms that occur. These are normal sensations that people who have been addicted to nicotine will experience and the symptoms when not prepared can be shocking and end in failure to quit smoking. During the fist cycle the body will often feel a deepened sense of depression and denial can be a part of this cycle in the fact that there is a nicotine addiction. There can be other emotions heightened and when this begins it is important to accept the fact that nicotine withdrawal symptoms are beginning. Then they can be dealt with rationally and it can be a successful attempt to quit smoking. The mind will negotiate around these urges and withdrawal symptoms when prepared, it is also important to have a support system of friends or family set up to get through this firs cycle when the nicotine urges are the greatest. Feeling defeated can mean lighting up, these kind of thoughts need to be avoided and the guard needs to be kept up to avoid these thoughts and the desire to smoke. It is also important to not become over confident, if the attempt to quit smoking fails it can be a real let down. |
